My Blog Pick Of The Week - Patrick's Place

I usually pick blogs for this feature, but the last two weeks I have been on an emotional rollercoaster about this story. It is a story of a dog. A dog named Patrick.

My Blog Pick for the week is Patrick's Place on the American Humane Society and Popcorn Zoo Website!

I had originally posted this for a facebook page, but it seems that things have gotten out of hand and egos overblown, so I recommend you go straight to the source!

This webpage is about the story of Patrick, the sweet pitbull puppy from New Jersey. He beat the odds by surviving starvation and being thrown down a garbage chute in an apartment building, wrapped in a plastic bag.

Here is the story:

Patrick was found on March 16th in a garbage shoot of a 22 story apartment building in New Jersey. He was in a garbage bag, but the maintenance man noticed some movement and opened the bag and inside was a dog, so starved that his bones protruded through his skin. Someone had actually starved this dog to that point of becoming a skeleton with skin, then proceeded to put him in a garbage bag and toss him out with the trash.

The maintenance worker called Newark Associated Humane Societies who brought the lifeless dog to the Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls, N.J., where he has been ever since.

"When he first came in, he really was looking like a corpse," said Pat Scavellino, GSVS's administrator. "There's no easy way to say it -- he was that poor."

The person who allegedly starved Patrick is Kisha Curtis, 28. Curtis was initially charged with animal cruelty, but on Tuesday the 29th those charges were upgraded to "torture or torment of a living creature," which carries a possible sentence of 18 months in prison and a $3,000 fine.

According to officials, Patrick had not been fed for about a month. The normally 50-pound dog weighed about 20 pounds when found. Scavellino said after two weeks of treatment, including heating blankets and blood transfusions, things are looking up for Patrick.

I have included some links below, and the bottom link is the humane society where you can follow his story!

Patrick has truly captured the heart of the nation...

I don't know whether to cry or throw up. Seeing the condition of poor Patrick when he was found, horrified me beyond belief. I do not understand what goes through someone's mind that they can do something like this.

Oh, my, I have a Yorkie and I am so in love I make sure he eats before I do sometimes. I have delayed eating breakfast to make sure he gets his food & water first. It just about made me sick! I am your newest follower thru GFC by way of the Boost Your Buzz contest that started today. Thanks for the contest and thanks for bringing this to our attention. I had not heard this story anywhere else.

Oh poor Patrick! What happened to him was really horrible. We don't have a dog but we used to until we had to give him away. My daughters love dogs. Good to know that Patrick's in good hands now.

Anyway, I'm giving you the Stylish Blogger Award. :D Please stop over my post to view it. Thanks! :D Have a nice day!

Hello...stopping in from BYB...thought I would say hi. Such a sad story about Patrick. I am an animal lover and fathom the thought anyone could be so cruel. I think these people should be treated just the way they have treated the animal...bet they wouldn't like it! Have a great weekend!
