This is MY website, MY words, MY BLOG!

So I guess I am blogging about blogging. It’s kind of funny when I think about it, because usually you blog to write about everything else in the world or your life.  I actually started blogging a couple of years ago. I started a blog called Stepmommy Extraordinaire. No one read it, that was ok, though a little depressing. I wanted to share what I was going through with other step moms out there. I just didn’t know how to reach them. I also do other forms of social media such as facebook and twitter though I admit; I have had a twitter account for a lot longer than I have known what to do with it. I now know quite a bit more about twitter than I had ever thought I would.

Anyway, my point is… I started this blog, The Pilot’s Wife with the intention for it to be about everyday life as the wife of a pilot. I also have a home based candle business that I wanted to share with people because I really think it is the most incredible candle business out there. I also have a true desire to, as AT&T used to put it, “reach out and touch someone” somewhere on this planet with my thoughts and words no matter how trivial they may seem to some.

So I wondered how to reach people. I learned, with a lot of help from other bloggers, a lot of trial and error, and A LOT of time on the computer. But what I also did was lose focus of some of what I started this blog about to begin with. My husband the Pilot, my kids, and me - the Pilot’s Wife!

I do have a vision for this blog. I want to reach out to other Pilot’s wives’ with a monthly guest feature; that is in the works. I also have added a side widget of my favorite blog of the week from all the other blogs I visit. I do plan to continue my candle giveaways monthly, because I just think EVERYONE should have the chance to experience the most incredible smelling Gourmet Candles. But I will not look for things to post just to have something to post… I confess, I have done that and the shows in the lack of comments I have received. If a person were to look at my statistics they could probably see what came from the heart and what came from desperation.

Now that does not mean I will not post something from the news if it does not hit home for me, but I guarantee you that there will be a heartfelt post to go along with it.

Video Killed The Radio Star!!!

So I was sitting there in my PJ's on the sofa with my dog Elvis snoozing by my side contemplating my first YouTube video. I had web cam fright!!! How is this possible??? I video chat with the kids when I am on vacation. I video chat with my husband when he is working. Why was I afraid of the web cam now. I have watched hundreds of other people do it. It looks so easy!!!

I think I had to just psych myself out, I can do this, I said to myself!  I used to get up in front of hundreds of people and speak, I had even been on TV before, so no more fooling around, I will do this. I am strong, I am invincible, I AM WOMAN! Yes, Helen Reddy is playing in the back of my mind...

Besides, it can't be any worse than trying to put eye drops in a bearded dragon's eyes, and yes, I have had to do that too! But that it another story I will share with you on another day!

So I gather up all the confidence I could muster, and... VIDEO KILLED THE RADIO STAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I wasn't a radio star, but I finally got over my web cam fear. Sort of and you can see that I had nothing to fear but fear itself, well, and a shaky camera. I will admit, it took about 10 takes, those Hollywood actors have tougher jobs than I thought. I didn't realize how hard it was.

So here it is, cheesy as it may be, my first YouTube video geared toward my business. Though unfortunately I have to update it already because I have consolidated everything to my personal sites.

And yes I know I was blinking a lot and looked scared to death!

 

Well, anyway, I worked at it and I overcame and I too am a video star, sort of!

About Me and My Candles!!!

So I have thought about this, and I have decided to close down my other blog, Freedom From Corporate. It was the blog that I did for my home based candle business. I think one blog is enough to keep me from going insane, or drive me insane, not sure which one yet...

My reasons for shutting it down and putting everything on one blog are this: I have always hated the split personalities of sales people. You walk into a store and they are on the phone blabbing to one of their friends, or talking to a co-worker, and they sound like a real person. Then they see you, suddenly there is a change. Out comes the sales pitch, and up comes my walls!!! I think it can be even worse online. You get all this hype and sales and you never get the real feel for the person behind the website.

That is why I decided what the heck, I am going to put it all together. Because the truth is, I decided to do this home based business to have more time at home, to be a mother, and a wife. To be me. So I think it is only fair that anyone else reading this gets to know the real me as well!

A year and a half ago,  In an attempt to have more time for the family, I have decided to give up the corporate world to find more time and freedom for my new family and life. I had a home based business that I had been dabbling in for a while and that provided the perfect opportunity to do something that would allow me the ability to focus more of my time and energy where it was truly needed, the kids.

After a long heartfelt talk with my husband and kids, it was decided, a home based business and network marketing really was the path to Freedom From the Corporate world! I decided I wanted to empower other women both personally and professionally and here I am.
